Lopen Karma gives talk on Buddhist Teachings in Business at Shang Shung Institute

During the talk, Lopen Karma presented how some basic Buddhist teachings are very effective tools for problem solving, critical thinking and enhancing business ideas. However, he pointed out how the Buddha stressed on ethical values to take compassion in synergy with wisdom for a sustainable and wholesome progress of humanity. He illustrated the application of Buddhist values in business using the works of the Loden Foundation in Bhutan in the field of social or what he calls Buddhist entreprenuership. He highlighted that while Buddhism is seen and practiced as a religious system and spiritual tradition for transcendent goal of nirvana, the teachings of the Buddha can be also adopted as inspirations for a positive way of life without restrictive religious faith and affiliation.

Lopen Karma successfully convenes the monastic conference on Bodhicitta

A conference of leading Tibetan Buddhist scholars was a convened at Shechen Monastery from 13-15 May on the topic of Bodhicitta, the thought of awakening. Lopen Karma Phuntsho, as the convenor, opened the conference sharing his personal story of how his masters taught bodhicitta as the essence of the Buddha's teachings. The three day conference saw both male and female monastic leaders from all major Tibetan Buddhist traditions present philosophical interpretations, practical instructions, textual traditions and meditative techniques on Bodhicitta from different traditions. The conference was organized by the Tsadra Foundation.

Ura Yakcho Festival 2026 ends successfully

The grand annual festival of Ura Village completed successfully on 2 May 2026. Lopen Karma Phuntsho has been leading the festival over the past two decades, being a bridge between the villagers and over 500 international guests who come to witness the festival. He launched the Statutes of the Ura Festival, which documents the procedures, rules, liturgies and other aspects of the festival. These traditions were so far passed down orally and at the verge of being lost as oral traditions vanish. On 7 November, 2025, Lopen Karma Phuntsho delivered the 10th Aris Lecture at Wolfson College, Oxford and also took part in the 25th Anniversary of Aris Centre for Tibetan and Himalayan Studies. The Centre was established by Michael Aris and his twin brother Anthony Aris. Dr Charles Ramble became the first position holder. Dr Ulrike Roesler is the current lecturer leading the centre. The celebration was attended by many friends of the Aris family and scholars working on Bhutan and Tibet.
